UGL, CPB Contractors and Pacific Partnerships, as part of the Canberra Metro consortium, delivered stage one of Canberra's light rail project for the ACT Government. Together their roles span sponsorship, design, construction, operations, maintenance, and equity investment, over a 20-year concession period.

UGL is delivering the operations and maintenance of the network with John Holland in partnership with DB Engineering & Consulting.

Canberra's light rail project will deliver high quality, reliable and frequent public transport down one of Canberra's busiest corridors.

The first stage of the Canberra Metro project included design and construction of a 12km light rail route from the fast growing area of Gungahlin to the city. There are 13 stops, depot, road, signalling and preparatory works and the ongoing operation and maintenance of the light rail system.

Joining UGL on the Canberra Metro consortium are fellow CIMIC Group companies CPB contractors and Pacific Partnerships, as well as John Holland, Mitsubishi Corporation, Aberdeen Infrastructure Investments, DB Engineering & Consulting (formerly Deutsche Bahn International), CAF and Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group Ltd (MUFG).
