Three new transmission towers are now standing tall in Far North Queensland as part of the works to connect Neoen’s Kaban Green Power Hub to the electricity grid.

UGL has been working to design and construct a new 257kV switching station to connect the Kaban Green Power Hub to Powerlink Queensland's network, including the construction of three transmission towers.

Standing at the height of 85m, these transmission towers are some of the tallest in Australia.

This was no easy feat with the new stretch of transmission line set to cross directly over an existing 275kV line, increasing the technical complexity of the project.

The specialist crews performed this tower assembly work with absolute precision. They used cranes stretching more than 100 metres in height with the two tallest towers each comprising of 75 tonnes of steel.
