Mugga Lane Solar Park produces enough electricity from the sun to power around 3,000 households, or 100 small-scale industrial facilities, in the ACT. That’s around 24,418MWh of electricity annually. Once fully operational, the facility is expected to save around 480,000 tons of CO2 gas emissions over its 25-year life cycle.

The challenge

Maoneng Group, required the construction of a fixed and single tracking system solar farm connecting to ActewAGL's distribution network.

Our solution

UGL delivered the design and construction of the 15.3MW solar facility at Mugga Lane for Maoneng Group. The major components of this facility are

  • a fixed photovoltaic (PV) solar system
  • a single axis tracking PV solar system and
  • an operations and maintenance (O&M) building

This solar park is connected to the Gilmore Substation (on Isabella Drive) via underground 11kV cables. Accordingly, the power generated will be distributed to ACT residents via the local electricity network.

UGL is also providing the operations and maintenance of the solar farm for a two-year period.

The scope of works for this project included the engineering, procurement, construction, and maintenance of a 13.3MWAC or 15.3336MWDC photovoltaic solar farm.

Key successes

  • export of power occurred six weeks earlier than planned
  • industry benchmark was set through work with the ACT regulator
  • local labour was largely utilised
  • the project was delivered without penalty and within budget
