This year’s flood disaster in Queensland and New South Wales affected more than a million people, damaged an estimated 50,000 homes, and closed countless small businesses.*

While it continues to rain, communities are cleaning-up and starting over. They are not alone – thanks to a wide range of generous people and supportive government and non-government organisations. CIMIC Group is part of the effort and has donated a total of $300,000 to flood relief and recovery.

Our employee matched-giving program raised $50,000 for Red Cross and Lifeline, and CIMIC donated $250,000 to the Business Council of Australia’s disaster response initiative, BizRebuild, which supports small businesses via the Community Rebuilding Trust.

Thank you

Thank you to our big-hearted team members across CPB Contractors, Broad, Sedgman, UGL, Pacific Partnerships and EIC Activities for helping in local clean-ups, joining CIMIC Group’s dollar-for-dollar matched giving program, and raising $50,000. These funds have been warmly received and are supporting Red Cross relief centres and Lifeline’s phone and online crisis support services.

Some standout contributions came in from UGL Manufacturing & Maintenance Newcastle and the CPB Contractors and UGL team on the Line-Wide project. Great job!

When Lifeline’s Lismore office flooded, CPB Contractors stepped up to deliver two self-contained portable site offices and a portable toilet (R), ensuring vital services continue to support the community.

“Flood affected communities in Queensland and New South Wales have demonstrated remarkable courage and resilience. We work in these regions and in times of disaster we’re always ready to support the immediate response, and the community’s wellbeing and recovery.

“Thank you for your generosity. Our matched-giving program raised $50,000 for Red Cross and Lifeline. We are also supporting the long-term recovery. Our $250,000 donation to support BizRebuild is enabling local businesses to reopen, bringing supplies, services, and jobs back into communities. CIMIC’s support is an extension of our commitment to building disaster resilient, sustainable infrastructure.”

CIMIC Group Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Juan Santamaria

“Delivering infrastructure and services is all about improving outcomes for communities, so when disasters strike, we act fast.

“I’m proud of our people and projects for immediately stepping in to help the clean-up. We’ll continue to make a difference to the affected regions’ social and economic recovery through BizRebuild. Small businesses are part of the fabric of strong communities.”

Helping local businesses

CIMIC Group’s donation of $250,000 to support BizRebuild is helping small businesses get back on their feet.

BizRebuild uses donations to provide affected businesses with $2000 vouchers to replace tools and office equipment. They also distribute $500 vouchers for local legal and accounting services which help business owners navigate government assistance channels and draw up business recovery plans.

This year BizRebuild has provided flood recovery support across 30 local government areas, stretching from Gympie in Queensland to Shoalhaven in NSW. They have distributed approximately 1400 vouchers valued at approximately $2.4 million, passing 100% of all donations directly to businesses in need. That money circulates in the local community multiple times and supports broader social and economic recovery.
