Kirstie Albone - Process Engineer, 2018 CIMIC Group graduate cohort
What made you choose the CIMIC Group graduate program?
“I really wanted to be a process engineer – I knew UGL was quite a large company and knew they would offer loads of opportunities.”
Completing her first rotation in UGL’s Southbank office in design engineering, Kirstie then joined the team on an oil refinery site where the days vary greatly with time spent between both the office and the site. “There are a lot of people around to help guide your journey. A colleague working in the office had worked there previously and he suggested it would be a good opportunity if I wanted to get some site experience."

“On site my direct manager at UGL and the shutdown manager and all the other coordinators for the turnaround they all mentor me and help me through. It’s a very supportive environment.”
What advice would you give to people looking to join the program?
“Look at what UGL has going on – there are so many opportunities. I had it in my head that I wanted to be a process engineer, and only a process engineer. But, as I’ve been doing different work I’ve moved naturally and not limited myself to one certain role. I think that’s important and I’ve taken every opportunity that comes my way as each one of them has given me a new experience to learn from.”
