I have applied for a position, what happens now?

Once you apply we will send you an automated response via email, confirming receipt of your application. 

While the recruitment process can vary across our company, the standard selection process for most roles at UGL is as follows:

If your skills match the job requirements the recruiter will call you for a phone interview.

If you're successful, your CV/resume will be shortlisted and passed on to the hiring manager recruiting for the role.

If you get through this stage you'll be invited for an interview in person, via telephone or by video conference depending on your location.

The full process may include some or all the below:

  • online application
  • telephone interview
  • behavioural interviews
  • psychometric testing
  • site visit (where applicable)
  • reference checks
  • medical checks
  • background checks.

Will I need a medical?

If you are successful at your final interview, you may be asked to take a pre-employment medical which aims to:

  • ensure you are fit for the job and won't put yourself or others at risk of illness or injury
  • establish your general health so that we can monitor you and identify any pre-existing medical conditions

UGL covers all costs associated with the pre-employment medicals.

Do you conduct psychometric assessments?

On occasion we use psychometric assessments for leadership and specialised roles. The recruiter will inform you if this applies.

What is the process for reference checking?

Before an offer is extended, two professional verbal referees will be contacted. Please ensure that you have spoken with your referees and asked their permission before you provide their details to us. You will be notified before we contact anyone to ensure we have your consent.
How do I get an update on a role that I have applied for?
It may take us up to six weeks to review your application. At UGL, we don’t rush this step. It’s important that we make sure we select candidates who are right for our company and right for the role.

Most roles advertised by the UGL recruitment team will have a contact name and number attached to them and you can contact that person directly. You can also track your application at any time by logging in using your username and password.

How do I receive my offer of employment?

Once you have successfully completed the UGL selection process, we will contact you to extend a verbal offer of employment. We will then send you a written employment contract.

Remember, our UGL recruitment team will be able to answer any questions you may have throughout the process.

Can I apply for more than one role at a time?

Yes. You are welcome to apply for any of our roles that you believe match your experience and interests.

Application tips

  • provide contact details so that we can communicate with you easily (a home/office and mobile number, as well as your email address, helps us to reach you easily)
  • take time to check your responses to the questions, and check your spelling and grammar
  • if your contact details change after you have submitted your application, please log back in to our online recruitment system and update them.

Is my application confidential?

The information you provide is only used for employment purposes. Your details will be treated confidentially in accordance with our privacy policy.

Are there any career advancement opportunities?

Yes. We always look to see if vacancies can be suitably filled internally before advertising elsewhere. Employees are encouraged to discuss their career goals and aspirations with their managers and to engage in the career development options UGL has on offer. Privacy - how do I delete my record?

Should you no longer wish for UGL to store your details on the database, please contact us and we will update our records accordingly.

How do I reset my username or password?

If you forget your password, please click the 'Forgot your password?' link and follow the instructions.

Do you offer secondary student placements?

Due to high demand for placements, all applications for secondary school students wishing to undertake general work experience placement should be made with the support of a UGL staff member who is well known to you. This UGL person will liaise with their local manager for an available placement.

Does UGL employ temporary and contract employees?

We employ short-term and temporary employees, as well as project-based contractors across the company.

We also partner with a panel of contingent recruitment providers to assist in resourcing our project and short-term needs as they arise.
