Every day, more than 5,000 employees strive to run Melbourne’s growing railway with continuous improvement in safety, punctuality, reliability and customer service.

MTM works with the State Government, Public Transport Victoria (PTV) and Transport for Victoria (TfV) to plan and deliver major infrastructure works that increase the durability and capacity of the metropolitan rail network.

Project details

MTM has established a state-of-the-art train maintenance facility at Craigieburn, a modern training academy at South Kensington and a passenger experience regime that seeks to make train travel enjoyable and accessible for everyone.

MTM continues to develop practices that improve the operational performance of the railway, underpinned by a strong focus on innovation, creating a better future for rail customers in the city of Melbourne.

To promote collaboration and knowledge-sharing among shareholders, employees and stakeholders, MTM has developed many initiatives to strengthen relationships and ensure adherence to best practice:

  • MTM, working with Transport for Victoria, Rail Projects Victoria, Public Transport Victoria, VicTrack, V/Line, Yarra Trams and LXRA, has launched the Rail Industry Academy – a body that promotes, develops and governs rail-related training programs and training providers.
  • MTM has regular meetings with Industrial Relations Victoria and Union representatives regarding industrial relations matters.
  • Key personnel and employees attend leadership forums and symposiums regularly to share knowledge and best practice.
  • MTM works with Public Transport Victoria in a Network Development Partnership to identify innovative transport solutions. The partnership is a primary vehicle to spur innovative practices in critical areas that impact on passengers and the wider community.
