Such a fantastic way for UGL to be finishing an action packed 2024 with news of final Government Planning approval having been given for construction of the HumeLink transmission line project.
Through the UGL and CPB Contractors joint venture, we will deliver the HumeLink West portion of this vital Transgrid Group project, which will connect the iconic Snowy 2.0 hydro project into the grid.
Once the project is connected to the network, it will unlock the Snowy Hydro Scheme expansion project, Snowy 2.0, and provide an additional 2,200 megawatts of on-demand energy into the grid.
Transgrid Group has done a magnificent job of navigating this very large and technically complex project through environmental planning approvals and investment validation processes.
UGL is both excited and honoured to have been tasked to deliver HumeLink West, which has such immense significance to Australia’s future energy security.
The joint venture’s scope includes construction of 365 transmission towers along 140 kms of alignment as well as the construction of two new 500kV substations and the upgrade of a third.
Enabling works, including establishment of two self-sufficient 350 worker accommodation facilities and equipment laydown areas and access points will begin in early in the New Year.
We are proud to be a key part of the creation of approximately 1,800 new construction jobs across HumeLink. Construction of HumeLink West is scheduled to start mid-2025 and be completed by 2027.
