As part of the Australian Resources and Energy Employer Association (AREEA) Bright Future STEM Program, two of UGL’s new energy team presented to primary school students about renewable energy. Ben Cooper, General Manager for new energy and Kevin Jonas, UGL Electrical Engineer, spoke to year 5 and 6 students about the opportunities around an education in STEM and their work.
As a dedicated advocate for STEM education, Ben seized the opportunity to inspire the next generation of innovators at both Clovelly Public School and St Brigid’s School, providing an insightful look into his career path and all the opportunities it has given him to travel and explore the world.
During the presentation, Ben encouraged active participation from the students, asking them what they knew about solar farms and explaining what he does at work on a day-to-day basis. Ben provided the kids with a glimpse into the world of renewable energy, highlighting their importance in shaping a sustainable future for all of us.
Kevin also spoke to students at Maroubra Junction Public School about travel opportunities and how seeing his designs out on site in real life encourages him to ask questions and learn more. He also discussed with the students how construction of renewable energy sources can help decline climate changes.
By investing their time and expertise in initiatives like the AREEA Bright Future STEM Program, both Ben and Kevin are not just shaping young minds, they’re encouraging a passion for discovery and innovation, who will undoubtably shape the future of our industry.
