As a proud Bidjara woman and mum to two proud Bidjara/Barunggam boys, UGL’s Brittany Mailman lives and breathes the strength of culture and community. In May, she was given an unforgettable opportunity — to volunteer in the Northern Territory through UGL’s partnership with NASCA (National Aboriginal Sporting Chance Academy), a 100% Indigenous-governed and led non-profit organisation.
“I spent a week volunteering in the Aboriginal community of Canteen Creek,” said Brittany. “It was an honour to provide in-class support while also delivering health, mentoring, and personal development activities that help young people stay in school, build skills, and pursue their ambitions.”
Brittany’s journey wasn’t just about giving; it was about growth, learning, and deep connection.
“The whole thing was unforgettable. From sharing stories and laughter to overcoming challenges, I formed deep connections with individuals and the community,” Brittany explained. “I left with a new perspective on life—educated, empowered, and with a heart as full as ever.”
Her time in Canteen Creek reaffirmed the powerful role of culture, community, and support in shaping strong futures for young Aboriginal people.
“Volunteering gave me the chance to make a meaningful difference, but it also transformed me,” said Brittany. “It instilled a deep sense of purpose and reminded me why we must continue to engage with and uplift our communities.”
Through her work with NASCA, Brittany not only gave back — she brought back with her a renewed vision for community, empathy, and progress.
“I’m so grateful to be part of the oldest continuing culture in the world. Volunteering allows us to share knowledge, contribute to meaningful causes, and build bridges between cultures.”
At UGL, we’re proud to support team members like Brittany who are living our values every day. Our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Networking Group helps employees connect, support each other, and advise the business on meaningful partnerships and initiatives.
Since launching our Stretch Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) in June 2022 — our fourth overall RAP — we have focused on strengthening relationships, growing talent pipelines, and supporting community-led success.
