At UGL we want to ensure employees have support at work and can receive help when they’re struggling. Kelly Wilkinson, and Kristy Barker have been instrumental in creating the Peer Support Network. The initiative links a UGL employee in need with other colleagues that they can chat to about stresses in their life.
Under the leadership of Kelly and Kristy, the team successfully implemented the Peer Support Network across the project. Their efforts included:
- Securing project leadership support to deliver the initiative.
- Conducting internal project communications, toolbox talks, and presentations to the workforce and client.
- Interviewing and selecting Peer Supporter nominations.
- Organising and delivering internal training for both day and night shifts, resulting in 39 Peer Supporters trained across one project in particular.
- Developing posters, stickers, and establishing a Peer-on-Peer support working group.
- Holding regular meetings to support the trained Peer Supporters.
“The dedication and leadership demonstrated by Kelly and Kristy have significantly contributed to creating a safer, more supportive workplace,” Senior Health & Safety Manager, Andrew Bruce said.
“Their efforts have not only promoted the physical and psychosocial health of employees but have also set a benchmark for excellence within the project.”
Kelly and Kristy’s efforts have been recognised with a Very Best Award for Safety. The trio has made a positive impact and enhanced the work life for all UGL employees.
