The UGL Legal team donned aprons and hats to help those going hungry, spending an afternoon at Our Big Kitchen (OBK), an organisation focused on combating food waste and food insecurity. The event was not just about enhancing teamwork but also about making a tangible difference in the lives of those facing hunger.
“The highlight of the day was the achievement of preparing approximately 200 meals, providing much-needed nourishment for people who would otherwise go hungry that evening,” said UGL General Counsel, Stephen Barrett-White. “This accomplishment brought a profound sense of fulfillment and gratitude among team members, who wished they could do even more.”
Tasked with creating meals from a set of ‘key ingredients’ like eggplant, broccolini, and brussels sprouts, each team crafted delicious dishes designed to warm and satiate. These meals, symbolic of what any family would enjoy at their dinner table, were packed and dispatched to those in need around Sydney’s Martin Place.
The ability to give back to the community and to be able to do it alongside colleagues is not only a great way to strengthen the team’s bond but also enriches our workplace with a shared sense of purpose and contribution.
"We are fortunate to have a job and an income, so giving back to the community, even just a little, does make a difference," said Stephen.
The day at Our Big Kitchen was more than a team-building exercise; it was a reminder of the power of collective effort to bring about positive change, and UGL looks forward to future opportunities to contribute again.
