UGL is proud to celebrate the successful completion of the 5MW Traction Feeder Substation (TFS) at the Public Transport Authority’s new Bellevue Railcar Depot in Perth’s eastern suburbs — a key milestone in Western Australia’s broader METRONET Railcar Program.
This critical infrastructure project provides the essential interface between the Western Power 132kVac transmission network and the 25kVac overhead rail traction supply system, delivering the power needed to support current operations and potential future Midland Line extensions.
Construction commenced in October 2023, with the team completing works by June 2024 and finalising commissioning by the end of the year. The project included the seamless delivery and installation of two prefabricated buildings transported from over 4,800km away in Newcastle, New South Wales — an impressive logistical feat completed with zero incidents.
A start-to-finish timelapse capturing the full transformation of the site can be seen below.
This milestone builds on UGL’s continued involvement at Bellevue, where we’re also delivering the adjacent Railcar Maintenance Facility alongside JV partner ADCO.
