UGL has taken bold steps forward on its journey of reconciliation. Through the implementation of our cultural learning strategy, a key component of UGL’s 2022-2025 Stretch Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), we have built strong foundations for cultural understanding, respect and inclusion across our workforce.
Over the past three years, more than 75% of nominated employees completed online cultural awareness training each year, embedding learning as a consistent part of UGL's workplace culture. In partnership with BC Consulting, UGL delivered face-to-face cultural awareness training sessions reaching over 1,400 team members across every state.
In a move to deepen understanding beyond the classroom, UGL also hosted eight on-country cultural immersion tours for senior leaders. These experiences, guided by Traditional Owners, provided powerful insights into country, connection, and culture — shaping how leaders think, engage and lead.
UGL National Aboriginal Engagement Manager, Ronald Jones, shares, “As we mature as an organisation and continue to explore the enormous opportunities in partnering with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, it’s a time for us to dive a little deeper into understanding, listening, and truly valuing the rich cultural knowledge that exists in this country.”
UGL’s internal Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employee network continues to grow as a space for connection, support, and advocacy. The group also plays a key role in guiding partnerships and initiatives that support community needs and strengthen engagement outcomes.
These initiatives are more than milestones, they reflect a growing commitment to shared learning, mutual respect and positive action.
