While working on a client’s site, UGL supported proactive risk management for a potentially hazardous substance commonly found in feedwater piping, pressure vessels, and boiler parts within power station environments.
To address the risk and safeguard both workers and the environment, our client leveraged UGL Health Safety and Environment (HSE) Lead, Jon Thorburn’s extensive experience. Jon has managed the hazard on other clients’ sites and co-developed comprehensive processes for managing such risks.
Under Jon’s guidance, the team successfully executed the work in line with stringent safety standards.
The client was impressed by UGL’s approach, which not only mitigated immediate risks but also strengthened their safety protocols. To validate the approach, the client’s hygienist conducted an independent review and confirmed its effectiveness.
In addition, Jon introduced UGL’s Critical Risk Management framework for dropped objects, including a supporting work area checklist. This initiative helped the client to enhance their controls around a significant safety risk.
“This is another example of how UGL brings innovative safety solutions and experience to the table, helping our clients to manage risks and improve their safety practices,” said UGL HSE Manager, Brendan Cruickshank.
Congratulations to Jon for receiving UGL’s Very Best Award for Customer, and to the entire team for showcasing UGL’s dedication to safety excellence!
