On projects where precision and momentum matter, strong leadership shapes the outcome. For UGL’s Civil Site Manager, Noel O’Sullivan, success comes from stepping directly into the heart of the work.
Joining UGL in 2023, Noel first supported early works on the Collie Battery project before progressing onto the Muchea Battery Project in Western Australia. He brings decades of construction experience and a calm, practical approach that keeps teams aligned, safe and productive.
Noel’s career spans general superintendent and construction management roles on major projects across Australia and overseas. This depth of experience makes him a trusted leader for complex, high-risk civil works where clear communication and hands on guidance are essential.
His leadership style is built on being present. Noel enjoys being with the team, understanding the daily realities of the project.
He stays closely engaged with crews during simultaneous operations - where multiple activities take place in the same area and require strong coordination - and during tasks such as lifting, excavation or operating around heavy equipment. His hands‑on presence supports clear communication, real‑time decision-making and a safer, more connected work environment.
“I like to be on the frontline with the team. Being involved in the day‑to‑day work, especially when activities overlap or require extra focus, helps keep everyone aligned and confident.”
This practical approach reflects Noel’s belief that strong leadership is built on visibility, collaboration and genuine engagement with the people delivering the work.
One of Noel’s greatest strengths is the global experience he brings into every role. Having worked across multiple countries, including decades of project experience in Papua New Guinea (PNG), a nation with up to 850 languages, he is skilled in leading diverse teams.
His time in PNG sharpened his ability to listen, adapt and build strong relationships, strengthening the way he connects with teams and fosters collaboration across any project environment.
“Working across different nationalities and cultures, people with different languages and perspectives, those interactions prepare you well for any environment.”
This experience translates seamlessly into UGL’s project settings, where collaboration, respect and cultural understanding are essential for high performing sites.
Noel’s leadership is defined by the outcomes he creates. He brings teams together, builds confidence and keeps work moving safely and smoothly.
