Margot’s journey with UGL is one shaped by adaptability, growth, and a deep commitment to the people she works alongside. Her career has taken her from North Queensland to Western Australia, and now to the Maragle project site in New South Wales, with each move adding new layers of experience and resilience. Every transition has brought new responsibilities, different environments, and a constant drive to improve how projects operate.
International Women’s Day holds a particular meaning for Margot. It reminds her of how far women have come in the workforce, and reflects the determination that has guided her throughout her own career.
Early on in her career, Margo wasn’t allowed to study computer programming because it was a male‑only course. Not letting that stop her, she found creative ways to pursue meaningful work, navigating roles in banking, taking on international moves, embracing the fly-in-fly-out (FIFO) lifestyle, and ultimately finding her place in project administration in one of UGL’s transmission line projects. Every chapter, expected or not, has helped shape the woman she is today.
A major source of Margot’s strength has always been her mother. After losing her hearing at 18 due to meningitis, her mother lived with unwavering determination and an unshakable belief that there is always another way forward. Margot carries that mindset with her, especially in the ever‑changing FIFO world, where each day brings new people, new challenges, and new opportunities to learn. Being part of a tight‑knit, diverse, and supportive community motivates her to keep growing and give her best every day.
Throughout her time at UGL, mentorship has played a key role in Margot’s development. She credits UGL Project Administrator, Sophina Kulendran as a guiding force, someone with deep knowledge who continues to support her through regular online catch‑ups.
Margot believes strongly in empowering others, especially those just starting out at UGL. Her advice is simple but important: speak up if something doesn’t feel right, make sure you embrace every training opportunity and receive the training you need, and don’t hesitate to request a mentor who can support your journey.
Outside of work, Margot lives a lifestyle grounded in wellbeing and family. She keeps fit, enjoys organic vegetarian food, and loves the coastal life. When she’s home, nothing matters more than spending quality time with her son and grandson.
For Margot, UGL is a great place to work because of its people. She values the on‑site management teams who genuinely care for their employees and foster environments that are harmonious, happy, and friendly. A place where people feel supported and seen.
