Bringing a station to life goes beyond construction, it is about the point when every system begins to operate as one.
Across Brisbane’s landmark Cross River Rail project, UGL is helping deliver the underground stations and systems that will power a safer, smarter and more connected transport network, with staged testing now well underway.
Commissioning is the process of systematically verifying and integrating systems to ensure they operate safely, reliably and as intended before entering service. This phase is gaining momentum and marks the shift from construction to preparing for operation.

At Boggo Road, that progress is becoming visible. UGL’s involvement sits at the centre of a coordinated sequence bringing the station closer to readiness. Ventilation systems have been commissioned, with fan bump testing confirming correct rotation and operation. Damper testing, which checks airflow control, and systemisation, which organises systems into testable, integrated packages, are also progressing to ensure all mechanical ventilation components operate effectively within the wider station network.
A key milestone has been reached with the energisation of key building services infrastructure. Subcontractors, working closely with the UGL team, have begun powering essential systems, including heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) and electrical services. This enables testing under operational conditions, validating performance and reliability ahead of integration with other station systems.

Progress continues during planned night shifts. Information and communication technology (ICT) and closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems are advancing through pre-commissioning, with large volumes of devices being checked for consistency and functionality. Signage, fire and electrical systems are also progressing through staged verification and integration.
Across all sites, collaboration remains central. UGL’s self-perform teams and subcontractors are working together to complete installations, energise systems and prepare for integrated operation. This phase is critical to confirm all systems function safely, reliably and as intended ahead of completion.
As a delivery partner on Cross River Rail’s Tunnel, Stations and Development package, UGL is delivering this work as part of the Pulse consortium, alongside fellow CIMIC Group companies Pacific Partnerships and CPB Contractors companies. Together, we bring deep rail expertise and end-to-end delivery capability to one of Queensland’s most significant infrastructure projects.
