Every safe train arrival carries a story of collaboration, engineering excellence and innovation. On Brisbane’s landmark Cross River Rail project, UGL is helping deliver that story through the installation and commissioning of platform screen doors (PSDs) at the city’s new underground stations.
More than physical barriers, PSDs are intelligent safety systems designed to protect passengers, prevent track incursions, support high frequency services and enhance the overall station experience. At Cross River Rail’s four underground stations, Roma Street, Woolloongabba, Boggo Road and Albert Street, these systems will play a critical role in the safe and reliable operation of Queensland’s largest public transport investment.
World‑class safety for Brisbane’s underground railway
Designed and manufactured by ST Engineering, the PSD systems for Cross River Rail are being installed, tested and commissioned by UGL as part of the project’s Tunnels, Stations and Development package.
At Woolloongabba Station, UGL began testing and commissioning the PSDs in 2025, a significant milestone on the path to operational readiness. Once complete, the underground network is expected to support around 17,000 passengers each day by 2036, providing faster and more direct connections across Brisbane’s inner south.
Working in harmony with high‑capacity train operations, the PSDs will:
- prevent passenger access to tracks
- reduce service disruptions and delays
- enhance safety and accessibility
- create a modern, intuitive station environment
UGL is delivering this work in partnership with Pacific Partnerships and CPB Contractors, fellow CIMIC Group companies, bringing together deep rail expertise and end‑to‑end project delivery capability.
