Anneke Brodie’s career with UGL shows the opportunities and professional growth available through CIMIC Group’s graduate program. Since joining in 2018, Anneke has navigated a diverse career path, progressing from a finance graduate to a finance lead within UGL.
Anneke began her journey in our utilities team, where she rotated across different areas of UGL’s business. Starting in project finance, she moved into corporate finance at UGL which included a three-month rotation at CIMIC Group. This experience gave her exposure to various facets of the Group and allowed her to gain a deep understanding of financial operations across UGL.
Reflecting on her experience, Anneke shares: “The graduate program was a great opportunity to see all parts of UGL and CIMIC. It really helped me understand the bigger picture and how finance integrates into different areas of the business.”
After completing the graduate program, Anneke transitioned into a project accounting role. Supported by UGL, her dedication and passion for finance led her to earn her chartered accountancy while at UGL, further solidifying her expertise.
Now she oversees the finance responsibilities of the industrials and resources team’s southern portfolio, managing power maintenance projects across New South Wales, Victoria, and South Australia. Her role is dynamic and fast-paced, dealing with large-scale project planned outages that require precise financial oversight. Anneke and her team ensure seamless financial operations to support critical projects.
One of Anneke’s standout contributions has been the development of an advanced project valuation model. This innovative tool enhances financial tracking, providing an in-depth cost completion snapshot and a detailed risk and opportunities register.
“When I first took on a major project outage, we needed a more efficient way to track performance,” Anneke says. “I developed a valuation model that gave us real-time visibility of costs and risks. It’s been great to see it adopted by the wider team.”
Anneke credits UGL for fostering agility, collaboration, and hands-on experience. Working across multiple business lines, she has developed strong finance, administration, and leadership skills.
“At UGL, you’re not just confined to one role. You get exposure to different parts of the business and work closely with operations, contracts, and finance teams. You learn to be adaptable and think on your feet,” Anneke explains.
Anneke is committed to continuous growth and leadership development. She has completed the Explore Emerging Female Leaders program through UGL, equipping her with valuable leadership skills and industry insights. Additionally, she is part of the Advance You program, specifically designed for high-potential employees across the business.
“Having mentors and professional development opportunities has been invaluable. The relationships I built early on helped shape where I am today,” she adds.
Anneke’s journey is just one example of the career-defining opportunities available through the graduate program. UGL invests in future leaders, providing exposure to world-class projects and expertise across industries.
