With over two decades of environmental experience in the construction industry, Vinh Nguyen brings a depth of insight and passion. Vinh’s role as UGL’s divisional environmental and sustainability manager is to govern, advise and support the services and transport lines of business to meet UGL’s environmental obligations and manage environmental risk.
His career experience shapes how he supports teams through every stage of the project lifecycle. “I’m involved from tendering, right through to delivery risk management, site compliance, and community engagement,” Vinh explains. “Whether it’s scoping the environmental risks of a bid or securing environmental permits, I work closely across all our teams — design, procurement, commercial, health safety and environment, engineering, operations – everyone has a role to play in environmental risk management at UGL.”
A natural coach and collaborator, Vinh thrives on connection. “I love mentoring our environment functional teams, sharing knowledge, and building career paths” he says. He’s also helping shape UGL’s future environmental professionals through the development of a career builder guide, mapping out the skills that functional environmental advisors need to grow from a graduate through to an environmental manager.
For Vinh, the job goes beyond compliance, it's about making a meaningful impact through collaboration, respect, and long-term thinking. “We’re not just here to tick boxes. We’re here to manage environmental risks in our business decisions. If we do that well, we can reduce overall costs, time, and further strengthen UGL's position as a trusted industry leader in environmental management.”
