Brenton Womal has recently started his apprenticeship as a turner and fitter after seeing an advertisement on Seek.
“The team is friendly. They all made me feel welcome on day one. They’ve always been there when I’ve needed someone,” says Brenton.
Having done another apprenticeship and a certificate in engineering, Brenton is proving learning is important at every age.
“Heaps of new skills. I’ve pretty much come in blind and I’m taking it all onboard. Everyone is from different backgrounds, and everyone’s got some input in my apprenticeship,” says Brenton.
He spent eight years working on the tracks and has no regrets about making the change!
“I was in the sun all day and then coming over here, totally different skills and something new. I’m home every night, big bonus!” says Brenton.
No two days doing an apprenticeship are ever the same.
“I might start with one tradie and then during the day I’ll change, rotate with all the different tradesmen doing different works. They give you new ideas on how to do things so you get the same results but do it different ways. That’s the bonus of having experience around,” says Brenton.
