Chris Weller credits UGL for his personal and professional growth.
"UGL has supported me every step of the way, encouraging self-development and confidence, which has driven my success," says Chris. "I started at UGL 10 years ago on a water treatment facility for Sydney Water, where my father was a lead operator. I was lucky to land a trades assistant position."
Beginning with hands-on tasks, Chris moved to the Water Reclamation and Management Scheme at Sydney Olympic Park and applied for a full-time operator role.
Over time, he completed his mechanical trade course, earned a Certificate III in Water Operations, and became proficient in AutoCAD. He recently completed UGL’s project management course.
As his responsibilities have grown, Chris has stepped up, first as site supervisor and now as the operations and maintenance (O&M) plant manager.
Chris has consistently focused on optimising processes and improving documentation.
"One major innovation has been enhancing quality control through prestart documentation,” says Chris. “Each morning, we review overnight changes and plant performance to ensure seamless communication.
"This has improved communication, water quality standards, and compliance with key parameters. We supply water to 30,000 customers, so maintaining high quality is crucial."
Beyond his work at UGL, Chris has a deep passion for sports.
"I’ve been playing cricket for close to 30 years,” he says. “Cricket has taken me to many places across New South Wales, and I’ve even been fortunate to tour with representative teams in the United Kingdom and New Zealand."
