Tell me about your role at UGL
“I have been with UGL for six years as an insulation technical authority at IAS. I deal with industrial insulation for pipes for gas platforms that can range from temperatures of minus 160 degrees to plus 750 degrees. The aim of my role is to stop the heat from escaping and at the same time stop the ice forming on the pipes for gas production. This process is about safety and ensuring structural integrity of the pipes are maintained. There are different types of insulation for each scenario depending on the circumstances.”
What projects stand out to you as career defining milestones?
“A defining project in my career was my time as the project manager for the Fabric Maintenance Contract for a Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) Pyrenees (off the coast of Exmouth, Western Australia). This role presented a steep learning curve, particularly in the first three months, as I worked to understand the client's expectations, managed offshore crew changes, and navigated the challenges posed by COVID-19. It was a complex and demanding period, but also incredibly rewarding as it sharpened my project management skills and adaptability.”
What skills have been most valuable in your career at UGL?
“Health and safety at UGL is more than just a policy; it's a core value. I have learned the importance of critical controls and taking time to plan and prepare tasks safely. One key aspect is the empowerment to stop any task to reassess and ensure it can be executed more safely. This culture of safety ensures that everyone can contribute ideas and improvements, fostering a collaborative and secure work environment.”
What makes UGL a great company?
“The collaborative culture at UGL encourages sharing knowledge and supporting each other, which has played a crucial role in my professional development. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn from such a talented and diverse group of individuals.”
