Tell us about your journey at UGL
“I started working with UGL as a contractor 14 years ago, when I was employed by a telecommunication company. I worked on the one of the largest rail projects in Australia implementing the digital communication system. After a few years, I was asked to move overseas to support other projects, but my family had settled here. I took the opportunity talk with some of the internal UGL team on the project to see if they had any vacancies so I could stay in Australia. The great news is I was able to transfer smoothly from being a contractor to working for UGL, plus continue working on the same project. In my 10 years with UGL, I have been fortunate to work with the same RTS team on various projects.”
What skills have you gained while at UGL?
“Understanding the importance of planning a job well to ensure a positive outcome from any unforeseen impacts for other departments and stakeholders. A positive skill I have learned is the in-depth processes we use that deliver successful results for projects.”
Have you had or been a mentor to others at UGL?
“My project manager and line manager have provided me with a lot of guidance. It’s a great relationship where I can discuss all topics relating to tasks. In my role as a team leader, I provide opportunities for my crew to learn and grow in their position, to ensure we are all focused on the same goal for project success.”
What makes UGL a great company to work for?
“Personally, I feel I have been well looked after from the very beginning. My transfer from my former employer to UGL was seamless. The team I work with are always positive and supportive as we are united on working towards the project’s success. Our hard work is consistently recognised, which I appreciate, as you feel you are making a positive impact working at UGL.”
